All of this for NT$1,800. The Main Station branch stands out because MRT Kaohsiung Main Station is a 3-minute walk, connecting you to Pier-2 Art Center, Lotus Pond and Cijin Island without a taxi. One honest note: Standard rooms are about 18 sqm, which is compact — if you have large luggage, book the Deluxe. No pool or gym, but for NT$1,800 with breakfast and laundry included, nothing else in a major Taiwanese city comes close.

What makes Just Sleep Jiaoxi exceptional is that every single room has its own sodium bicarbonate hot spring soaking tub — not some rooms, every room. Sodium bicarbonate (the 'beauty water' chemistry of Jiaoxi) is colourless and odourless, leaves skin noticeably soft after soaking. The public gender-segregated pools are right outside. Jiaoxi is the onsen town closest to Taipei — just 70 minutes on the TRA. Private rooms start at NT$2,200; dormitory beds at NT$900. One note: Tainan has no MRT system; a scooter rental or taxi is needed for attractions further out.

One note: the hostel is 8km from downtown Magong, so you'll need the e-bike or a taxi for town.

This Just Sleep branch is unusual within the chain because it has an outdoor pool and wide green grounds — something no in-city Just Sleep offers. It sits next to Ten-Drum Cultural and Creative Park (a world-class art and performance venue in a converted sugar refinery) and Chi Mei Museum, one of Asia's largest collections of European sculpture.
