Le Méridien Taipei — a design-led 5-star stay in the heart of Xinyi

Le Méridien Taipei is a 5-star Marriott hotel that "leans into art and design more than the usual luxury hotel". It sits in the heart of Xinyi, Taipei's most modern district, an easy walk from the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi malls and Taipei 101, with 160 spacious floor-to-ceiling-window rooms, an indoor pool, and service guests mention first.

Our Full Review

Le Méridien Taipei opened in 2010 and positions itself distinctly apart from the usual 5-star hotel — Marriott's Le Méridien brand has European roots and is built around "art, design and local culture". Contemporary artworks line the lobby and corridors, so staying here feels closer to wandering a gallery than checking into a standard business hotel.

"Fantastic location — an easy walk to the malls and Taipei 101. The room was spacious, with floor-to-ceiling glass and a lovely city view. The staff went above and beyond."

Lobby and public spaces at Le Méridien Taipei

The strength guests mention most is the central Xinyi location. The hotel is just steps from the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi department stores, around a 6-minute walk to MRT Taipei City Hall on the Bannan (blue) line, and a short stroll further to Taipei 101, ATT 4 FUN and the wider Xinyi entertainment district. Location scores on the booking platforms sit around 9.5 — very high — making it ideal for both shopping trips and business travel.

All 160 rooms are noticeably more generous than the Taipei 5-star average. Deluxe rooms start at roughly 38 sq m in a warm, modern palette, with floor-to-ceiling glass framing the city, an in-room coffee machine, a rain shower and a TOTO washlet toilet. The 60 sq m Corner Suites on the higher floors are a worthwhile pick for couples or families wanting extra space.

Facilities are complete to 5-star standard — an indoor pool with a hot tub, a large fitness centre with an aerobics room and a wet sauna, a spa, and an executive lounge for Club-tier rooms. Dining includes Latest Recipe (the international buffet and breakfast venue) and My Humble House, a well-regarded Cantonese restaurant. The breakfast buffet draws praise for its variety and freshness.

Luxury hotel atmosphere in Xinyi District

What to know before booking — while service is good overall, some reviews note it can be inconsistent: occasionally slow responses or a room not ready at check-in time. Bathroom lighting in some rooms is on the dim side, and a few guests were caught out by unexpected add-on charges (an ice-bucket rental, for instance). It's worth confirming any extra fees clearly at check-in.

In short, Le Méridien Taipei is best for travellers who want a design-led 5-star hotel, a central Xinyi location, and rooms more spacious than the in-class competition. It suits couples, shopping trips, and business travellers who want easy transport paired with a real eye for design.

💡 Check before you book
These 3 points matter to some travellers — make sure they fit your trip (we have added the workaround).
  • 💡If you expect a grand, opulent lobby — Le Méridien favours clean modern design over grandeur, and the lobby is fairly compact → if you want classic luxury, pick a more traditional hotel in the same district
  • 💡If you want flawless, consistent service everywhere — reviews show service is good but not always uniform → flag special requests ahead and confirm again at check-in
  • 💡If you're wary of hidden costs — some guests were caught out by add-on charges → ask clearly at check-in which items carry an extra fee
