Hotel Royal Beitou — soak in a private sulfur hot spring in the Beitou valley

Hotel Royal Beitou (北投老爺酒店) is a 5-star hot-spring resort where every single room has its own private sulfur hot-spring bath — you can soak in a genuine Taipei onsen without ever stepping out of your room. The hotel sits directly opposite Xinbeitou MRT Station, a 2-minute walk away, making it one of the most convenient and most blissful onsen stays in the city.

Our Full Review

Hotel Royal Beitou is part of Taiwan's Hotel Royal Group, opened in the Xinbeitou onsen district around a theme of "Health & Healing". With just 45 rooms, it feels quieter and more private than the larger hot-spring hotels nearby. What clearly sets it apart from rivals is that every room has its own in-built hot-spring bath — not only the suites — so guests can soak whenever they like, however late, with no queues and no shared bath house required.

"Soaking in the in-room hot spring at night after a full day of sightseeing is heaven. Real sulfur spring water, perfectly hot, clean spacious rooms and very attentive staff."

Guest room with a private hot-spring bath at Hotel Royal Beitou

Beitou's water is a white sulfur spring, well known for relaxing muscles and nourishing the skin. The hotel pipes natural spring water straight into each room's bath, with the temperature adjustable yourself. Many guests agree the water quality here is "authentic and rich", with a gentle sulfur scent that feels like a serious Japanese onsen. For those who want the full experience, beyond the in-room baths there is also the MU Hot Springs public bath house and separate private bathing rooms to use.

There are five room categories, from the Superior (33㎡) and Deluxe (around 40㎡) up to the Premier Suite and Deluxe Family (around 60㎡, sleeping four). The design is a warm, minimalist style drawn from Beitou's nature and culture, and most rooms are noticeably more spacious than hotels in central Taipei. Real reviews rank cleanliness and attention to detail among the very first things they praise.

Minimalist common area and lobby

Another point guests mention often is the food. The hotel offers a "one night, two meals" package (breakfast plus dinner) at the PURE CUISINE restaurant; breakfast in particular is praised for being fresh, varied and made with quality ingredients. Other facilities are well stocked for a 5-star property — QUAN SPA for massage and treatments, the QUAN SPORT gym, a library, the PIN Lounge, and even preventive-medicine services that clearly reflect the hotel's Health & Healing theme.

Hot-spring bath house and spa atmosphere in Beitou

To be honest, Hotel Royal Beitou sits in the higher price bracket — a weekday off-season room starts around NT$6,200, but in high season or on weekends it can climb to over NT$10,000 a night. Some reviews also raise the temperature and the size of the in-room bath in certain room types as things they would like improved, and a few guests felt the service was not always as consistent as the very top tier of 5-star hotels — although overall sentiment is strongly positive.

In short, Hotel Royal Beitou is best for couples, honeymooners and families who want the most blissful hot-spring trip in Taipei without travelling far. If you value soaking in a private in-room onsen, a calm atmosphere, a location within walking distance of the MRT, and a one-night-two-meals plan so you don't have to find dinner — this is one of the most rewarding and bookable choices in the whole Beitou district.
