City Suites Taipei Nanxi — a well-located 4-star in the heart of Zhongshan

City Suites - Taipei Nanxi is a 4-star hotel on Nanjing West Road that sits right between modern Taipei and old Taipei — a few minutes' walk one way reaches Nanxi's department stores and MRT Zhongshan, while the other way leads to Ningxia Night Market and the historic Dihua Street. It's a location that food-and-walking travellers love.

Our Full Review

City Suites - Taipei Nanxi is one branch of City Suites, a Taiwanese local chain that has long focused on "city hotels for travellers". The 10-storey building holds around 80 rooms and has been open since 2005, with ongoing refurbishments. What earns the hotel its high overall score of 8.9 across hundreds of guest reviews isn't luxury — it's a sense of "just right": rooms larger than the typical Taipei hotel, spotless housekeeping, attentive staff, and a location you can walk anywhere from.

The heart of this hotel is its Zhongshan / Nanxi location, which covers every travel mood. Step out and turn east, and about 7 minutes brings you to MRT Zhongshan and the upscale Nanxi (Mitsukoshi) shopping district. Head the other way and you reach traditional Taipei — roughly 8-10 minutes to Ningxia Night Market, famous for street food, and the historic Dihua Street, the city's prettiest old quarter of tea shops and dry-goods stores. Beimen Station and Taipei Main Station are also within walking distance, making airport and high-speed-rail connections easy.

Guest room at City Suites Nanxi

Guests say: "The room was bigger than they expected for Taipei — you can roll in a large suitcase and still have floor space. Breakfast had both Western and Asian options, and the staff were lovely."

The thing guests praise most is the buffet breakfast, which spans Western and Asian dishes, fresh fruit and vegetables, and rotating hot items — many reviews call it a highlight of the stay. Close behind is the staff: service scores reach the 9 range — friendly, English-speaking, and genuinely helpful with trip planning (several guests name the concierge personally). The common areas are airy too, with a spacious lobby, a small lounge/library, a free coffee-and-tea corner and a fitness room.

Lobby and lounge area

Rooms here are noticeably larger than the Taipei standard — even a Standard runs around 25 sqm, while Superior and Corner rooms climb to 33-43 sqm, and many have a bathtub separate from the shower, rare at this price. The decor is warm, plain, clean and practical, but to be honest the design is starting to show its age — the hotel has been open 20 years, and some reviews mention dated furniture and wallpaper. If you expect a freshly designed room, this isn't it; but if you want space, cleanliness and value, it delivers.

Bathroom with bathtub

One thing to know before booking is the sound insulation — a number of reviews mention hearing neighbouring rooms or doors closing in the corridor, as the building is older and doors lack soft-close mechanisms. If you're a light sleeper, ask for a higher-floor room away from the lift at check-in. Also, while the breakfast is varied, guests staying several nights note the menu repeats — not an issue on a short trip.

In short, City Suites - Taipei Nanxi is best for travellers and families who want a roomy space, an all-directions walkable location and warm service at an attainable 4-star price. It isn't a design-led boutique, but it's a city hotel that simply works well — and for anyone who'd rather spend their time on Taipei than in their room, this Zhongshan / Nanxi address is excellent value.

🎯
This place is a great fit if...
If you're a traveller or family who wants a roomy space, an all-directions walkable location near night markets and old streets, and warm service — City Suites Taipei Nanxi is a great-value 4-star for a Taipei trip built around eating, walking and shopping.
💡 Check before you book
These 3 points matter to some travellers — make sure they fit your trip (we have added the workaround).
  • 💡If you're a light sleeper — the older building has weak sound insulation and corridor noise carries → ask for a higher-floor room away from the lift at check-in, and pack earplugs just in case
  • 💡If you expect a freshly designed room — the hotel is 20 years old and some furniture looks dated → it trades on space and value, so for a design-led stay pick a newer boutique hotel
  • 💡If you're staying several nights — the breakfast menu repeats → mix it up with an authentic Taiwanese breakfast at the cafes around Dihua Street
